Laser-assisted Treatments at Wallan Dental
Tongue Tie Removal
Tongue tie is a problem that occurs in children who have a tight piece of skin between the underside of their tongue and the floor of their mouth.
Tongue tie can result in small problems from a slight difficulty in breastfeeding to more severe issues like orthodontics and sleep apnea later on in life.
We can treat this condition with a simple 15-minute procedure involving soft tissue laser and a small amount of local anaesthesia. There are no stitches, no bleeding and rapid healing is a result.
Labial Frenum Treatment
Labial Frenum is a skin tag attached between the centre of the upper lip and between upper central incisors. It can result in a gap between the upper two front teeth and some gum recession by pulling back on gums. Labial frenum is usually removed during orthodontic treatments in assisting gap closure between upper front teeth.
When a denture patient’s lip moves it can dislodge the denture, so the frenum is removed in such cases to stabilise the dentures. A simple procedure involving soft tissue laser is used and is done without stitches or bleeding and heals rapidly.
Crown Lengthening
Excess gingival tissue present on teeth can result in smaller looking teeth which can be aesthetically not pleasing.
Soft tissue laser is used to remove excess gingival tissue in such cases to expose more tooth structure and make teeth appear larger. As a result, it also helps in getting rid of some gummy smile.
In severe cases, bone contouring is required to get best results.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
Wisdom teeth removal is required if they are badly decayed, causing pain or creating problems in maintaining good oral hygiene. Wisdom teeth could also potentially cause problems after teeth straightening.
Deeply embedded wisdom teeth can be left untouched as they rarely cause any issues.
Wisdom teeth removal do not always require an expensive surgical procedure under general anaesthesia.
We remove the majority of wisdom teeth in-chair under local anaesthesia alone or along with nitrous sedation. In rare occasions, complicated cases are referred to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
