Your First Visit to Wallan Dental: Building Trust and Health
Welcome to Wallan Dental! We are excited to partner with you on your journey to optimal oral health. We understand that visiting a new dentist can sometimes be daunting, so our primary goal during your first visit is to listen, understand your concerns, and establish a comfortable foundation of trust and open communication.
Your initial consultation is comprehensive, allowing us to accurately assess your current oral health, identify any immediate concerns, and collaboratively develop a personalized, long-term care plan.
our process
What to Expect During Your First Visit
Your initial appointment is typically 45 to 60 minutes and is centred around you:
01
Welcome and Paperwork
We’ll review your Patient Registration Form (which we encourage you to complete online beforehand) and discuss your medical and dental history.
02
Listening to Your Concerns
We want to know your chief complaint first. Whether it’s pain, aesthetic goals, or general check-up, we focus on your priorities.
03
Comprehensive Examination
This includes a thorough assessment of your teeth, gums, bite, jaw joints (TMJ), and a vital Oral Cancer Screening.
04
Digital Imaging
We usually take necessary Digital X-rays and scans to diagnose issues not visible to the naked eye, ensuring accurate and early detection.
05
Treatment Discussion
We will explain your findings clearly, discuss all viable treatment options, and provide a transparent, upfront quote for any proposed work.
Your Child's First Visit: Setting Up a Lifetime of Smiles
We love welcoming our youngest patients! Kids Dentistry is a specialized focus at Wallan Dental, and we aim to make their first visit a fun, positive, and gentle experience, critical for avoiding dental fear later in life.
- When to Visit: We recommend their first check-up be around age one or within six months of their first tooth erupting.
- Focus on Familiarity: The first appointment is often a "Happy Visit", a brief, gentle examination done while sitting on a parent's lap, focusing on counting teeth and making friends with our team.
- Preventive Education: We provide parents with essential advice on oral hygiene, diet, thumb-sucking cessation, and information about the Children's Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS).
- Early Assessment: We look for early signs of alignment issues (around age 7) to guide future Orthodontic treatment if necessary.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Please bring your Private Health Insurance Card (if applicable), a list of any current medications, and your completed Patient Registration Form. For children, please bring their Medicare Card to check for CDBS eligibility.
How long will the first appointment take?
The initial comprehensive exam and consultation typically takes 45 to 60 minutes. If you require an emergency assessment for pain, we will prioritize treating the immediate issue first.
Will I get my teeth cleaned during the first visit?
While we prioritize the exam and consultation first, if time permits and you don’t have complex needs, we often schedule the professional cleaning (scale and polish) immediately after or shortly thereafter.
Are dental X-rays mandatory?
Dental X-rays are a vital diagnostic tool, as they reveal decay, bone loss, and infection that can’t be seen with the naked eye. We only take X-rays that are clinically necessary to provide accurate diagnosis and safe treatment planning.
What if I have a dental emergency right now?
If you are experiencing pain, trauma, or swelling, do not wait. Call us immediately at (03) 5783 3344. We keep time reserved daily to accommodate urgent dental emergencies.
