If your child is eligible, we can bulk bill their treatment to Medicare, ensuring no out-of-pocket costs for many common procedures. Utilizing the CDBS at our practice makes achieving and maintaining your child’s healthy smile easy and affordable.

What the CDBS Covers & How It Works
- Benefit Cap: Eligible children have access to a capped benefit of up to $1,132 over a two-calendar-year period.
- Eligible Services: The benefits cover a range of essential basic dental services, including:
- Check-ups and comprehensive oral examinations.
- Scale and Cleans for preventive oral hygiene.
- X-rays (Radiographs).
- Fillings for treating decay.
- Fissure Sealing for decay prevention.
- Root Canal Treatments and Extractions.
- Ineligible Services: The CDBS does not cover cosmetic dental work, orthodontic treatment (braces/Invisalign), or services provided in a hospital.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my child is eligible for the CDBS?
A child is eligible if they are aged 0–17 for at least one day in the calendar year, are eligible for Medicare, and receive, or are part of a family receiving, certain Australian Government payments (like Family Tax Benefit Part A). Services Australia usually notifies eligible families.
Do I need to register my child for the CDBS?
No. You do not need to apply or register. Eligibility is determined by Services Australia. We simply need your consent and your child’s Medicare details at the time of the appointment to check their status and process the claim.
What happens if we don't use the full $1,132?
Any unused benefit from the first calendar year rolls over into the second calendar year. However, if the full benefit is not used within the two-year period, the remaining balance expires and does not carry over into a new benefit period.
Can I use the CDBS and my Private Health Insurance together?
No. You cannot claim a benefit from both the CDBS and your private health insurance for the same dental service. Our team will assess the services and advise which method offers the best financial advantage for your child’s specific treatment.
When does the two-year period start and finish?
The two-year period starts at the beginning of the calendar year in which your child first becomes eligible and receives their first dental service under the scheme. The balance must be used by the end of the following calendar year.
